Article Review Policy

General information

The editorial board of the journal "Pharmacology and Drug Toxicology" is guided in its work by the norms of the legislation of Ukraine in the field of education, science and intellectual property and relevant international practices. For publication in the journal, profile articles of problematic, generalizing, methodological directions are accepted, which contain new scientific results and have not been published anywhere before. The works must be written on a topical topic, contain the results of in-depth scientific research, novelty and justification of scientific conclusions in accordance with the specified goal.

Articles in Ukrainian or English up to 20 pages long that correspond to the topic of the publication and contain scientific results that have not been published before are accepted for publication.

Materials for publication are sent to the journal editorial office (e-mail: ift.regedit @gmail.com) together with the author's/authors' request for publication of the article of the established format.

Each article is subject to double-blind peer review.

The procedure for reviewing a scientific article involves its review and evaluation by experts with significant experience in the field of research to which the article is devoted.

The main stages include submission of the article, preliminary examination, anonymous review, authors' work on comments, and the editorial board's decision on publication.

Submission for publication

The author(s) submits to the editorial office a request of the established sample (attached) with a request to accept the article for publication. The request is accompanied by a manuscript of the article signed by the author (all co-authors), prepared in accordance with the established requirements, and a conclusion on checking the submitted materials for plagiarism.

In the case of using biological objects in research, a conclusion from the bioethics commission of the institution where the research was conducted is attached.

Review process

Preliminary review

After the article is received by the editorial office, the executive secretary, within ten calendar days from the date of receipt of the request letter:

reviews the article for its compliance with the journal's topic;

checks the availability of the conclusion of the bioethics commission (in case of involving biological objects in research) and the conclusion based on the results of the plagiarism check;

checks the manuscript for compliance with the formal requirements for design;

prepares a conclusion on whether to accept the manuscript for review or send it to the author(s) for revision, or reject the manuscript with reasons.

The executive secretary shall notify the author/contact person of the decision made by e-mail within three calendar days.

In the event of sending an article for revision, the author(s) must submit the manuscript corrected in accordance with the comments to the editorial office no later than thirty calendar days from the date of receipt of the notification. In this case, the date of receipt will be considered the date of re-submission of the revised article.

Exceeding the deadline set for finalization is grounds for withdrawing the manuscript from consideration, which the executive secretary will notify the author/contact person by e-mail.

Review procedure

The purpose of peer review is to improve the quality of scientific articles published in the journal through the evaluation of materials by highly qualified experts.

Reviewing is carried out by independent reviewers and is anonymous for both reviewers and authors (double “blind” review, in which the personal data of the author(s) is not disclosed to the reviewer, and the author(s) is not disclosed to the reviewer's personal data).

When reviewing an article, reviewers must adhere to the journal's editorial and publication ethics policies and be objective and unbiased.

Based on the results of a thorough analysis of the article, the reviewer fills out a standard review form and chooses one of the following recommendation options: recommend the article for publication; recommend the article for publication after taking into account the comments without re-reviewing; return the article to the author(s) for revision with further review; refuse to publish the article to the author(s).

In case of refusal to publish, the reviewer must provide a written, reasoned explanation of the reasons for such a decision.

Reviewers process the manuscript within thirty calendar days and submit to the editorial office a scanned review completed in accordance with the established form, signed with a regular or digital electronic signature.

Reviewers' comments are not published or made public without the permission of the reviewer, the authors of the manuscript, and the editor-in-chief.

Appointing reviewers

In case of a positive conclusion on the admission of the article to review, the executive secretary, within seven calendar days after receipt of the request, prepares the editorial board's proposals for reviewers. The proposals for reviewers are considered and approved at the next meeting of the editorial board.

The consideration of the reviewers' candidacies by the editorial board is preceded by obtaining their consent to review. To this end, the executive secretary sends a letter to the reviewers with a request to give their consent to review within ten calendar days after receiving the letter. The letter is accompanied by an abstract of the article with information about the author(s) removed.

Reviewers can be both members of the editorial board and other domestic and foreign scientists who have scientific works on the issues stated in the article and have at least one publication in the last 3 years in publications included in the List of Professional Publications of Ukraine approved by the Ministry of Education and Science, or in foreign publications included in the scientometric databases Scopus or Web of Science, or have monographs or sections of monographs published by international publishing houses belonging to categories "A", "B" or "C" according to the classification of the Research School for Socio-Economic and Natural Sciences of the Environment (SENSE).

With the consent of the reviewers, the executive secretary sends the reviewer the manuscript of the article with the information about the author(s) removed and a standard review form (attached).

In the absence of the reviewer's consent, another candidate is proposed in the above-mentioned order.

Review of the article by the editorial board

After receiving the reviews, the issue is submitted by the executive secretary for consideration by the editorial board, which meets once a month, where one of the following decisions is made by open voting: to recommend the article for publication; to recommend the article for publication after taking into account the comments without re-reviewing; to return the article to the author(s) for revision with further review; to reject the article.

In case of ambiguous situations, the editorial board reserves the right to appoint an additional reviewer or request the opinion of a third party.

The date of recommendation of an article for publication is the date of the editorial board meeting.

The decision of the editorial board is sent to the author(s) by email.

Articles to be revised are sent to the contact person along with the text of the review, which contains specific recommendations for improving the article. Before sending, information about the reviewer is removed from the review. The anonymity of reviewers is guaranteed by the journal editorial board.

The editorial board does not enter into discussions with the authors of articles that require revision or rejected articles.

The revised version of the article (if necessary) is sent for re-review in the same order as the first submitted manuscript.

In the event of a repeated negative review result, the article is rejected and not subject to further consideration. The editorial office will notify the author(s) of this by e-mail.

Further work with the article accepted for publication is carried out by the editorial office in accordance with the technological process of preparing a journal issue.

Reviews for each article are stored by the editorial office for at least three years from the date of publication of the journal issue in which the reviewed article is published.
